Let’s take a deep dive into the face mask craze.

It’s true, the skin can start to look dull and dry after the winter months, a week of wearing more makeup than usual, or just the rough & tough of everyday life. Rejuvenation and exfoliation is key BUT, don’t over do it.

Bright & Glowing skin comes from the inside out. AKA - the food we eat. Before you go crazy on face masks and skin care routines, take a look at what you are feeding your body. Are you drinking enough water? Start your day with at least 16oz of filtered water with lemon to jumpstart your body. Dairy is a big no no for clear skin as well as foods high in acidity or sugar. Eating mindfully, with the seasons and focusing on good digestion are huge factors in creating a blemish free complexion as well.
Besides food, stress plays a huge role in stubborn acne. ‘Stress is toxic for the immune system and has an aging effect, damaging the skin’s collagen and natural moisture levels’ my beauty bible ‘Eat Beautiful’ by Wendy Rowe, goes even deeper into the effects that food and stress can have on our skin.

Once you’ve made a change - or maybe a few - from the inside (food + mind), it’s time to pair those changes with some love from the outside. Be careful not to grab any old mask you see. Some masks are filled with chemicals, parabens and synthetic colors - enemies of the glow that will prevent you from reaching your clearest skin in the long run.

This is my favorite mask to use on a Sunday evening or Monday morning for my softest, glowing skin. Using ingredients found in my kitchen + my favorite coconut oil based clean skincare brand Kopari:

  • Spirulina + Coconut oil Mask:
  • 1-2 tsp of spirulina
  • 1 tsp of coconut oil (I use my Kopari Coconut melt found on the products page)
  • 1.5 tsp of filtered water
  • 1 tsp fresh lemon juice

** Pro tip - add the water a ½ tsp at a time until you find the consistency you prefer

Mix all of the ingredients together until it forms a thick paste.
Apply the mix with a thick foundation brush and leave on for 10-15 minutes
Wash off with a warm, wet washcloth
